A~6 hr stroll through evolving landscapes of the San Francisco East Bay near Oakland, CA

Service Description

We will meet at the Sibley Staging Area in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, explore the views of the San Andreas tectonic boundary fault-scape, and observe why ancient volcanos erupted, and the land uplifted as the tectonic boundary transitioned, creating this unique landscape. Learn about the formation of the topography, the rocks in the surrounding land, and how this land will continue to change in the near & distant future. MODERATELY STRENUOUS TRAIL: This location has been chosen for its maintained paths and truly unique volcanic rocks. We will explore the rocks from the base of the mountain to the top, as we walk a maximum of 4 miles, and gain & lose ~500ft elevation. Plan to arrive early to find parking lot, and if the parking lot is full park along the road. There is a bathroom at the trailhead. -Each participant must sign up/register for the hike under their own Appreciating Earth member account -This event may be canceled if the weather is inclement -Prior registration is required
